Earn Exalted Reputation with the Netherwing

Hey everyone, Jangutu here, I’ll be doing this weeks Exalted! If you want to learn more about me, check out the forums!

This week, I’ll be showing you how to get exalted with the Netherwing in Shadowmoon Valley. For this rep you’ll need a flying mount to get to neutral, and epic flying skill (300) to get from neutral to exalted. This reputation works a lot like Sons of Hodir. You unlock them through a quest chain, and then do dailies and collect rare items to turn in, the higher your reputation, the more dailies available to you. The difference between these reps is Netherwing only rewards with the ability to purchase and fly the netherwing drakes as well as [On Wings of Nether] when you reach exalted. There are 6 different shades of the netherwing drake. The different colors are purchasable for 200gold each. These mounts count towards your mount count, so they’re very useful if you need an extra push to hit 50 mounts [Leading the Cavalry] for your albino drake (or 100 mounts [Mountain o Mounts] for your dragonhawk). Another thing I’d like to note is the Netherwing dailies are different from Sons of Hodir dailies in the sense that Netherwing has you working undercover as a fel orc, as opposed to doing awkward chores such as polishing helms, raising spears, and blowing on horns…

*ahem*

If you do the dailies every day, you should hit exalted by the end of day 14. There are random eggs that you can loot (more on them later) to significantly reduce the length of the grind.

Also, for those of you who did Black Temple and have the Blessed Medallion of Karabor can use it to hearth to Black Temple every day and cut down on your time flying out to the daily area. (the quest chain to get this item starts with , and ends with killing Illidan in Black Temple) For those interested the chain starts with Anchorite Ceyla for Aldor, and Arcanist Thelis for Scryer. It is long and there is a point where it seems to stop (after turning in Akama's Promise), but go into Serpent Shrine Cavern and kill Fathom-Lord Karathress. After his defeat an NPC in a cage, Seer Olum, lets you continue the chain with The Secret Compromised.

Hated to Neutral
To begin you’ll need to get out of hated. Luckily this is a simple quest chain that starts at Mordenai. He can be found walking around Netherwing Fields in Southeast Shadowmoon Valley. He will give you the quest Kindness which will lead to a straight forward 9 quest chain. [Note: on the second quest where you speak with Neltharaku his hit box can be tricky, don’t give up if it seems like you can’t talk with him, try approaching him from some different angles] The chain is pretty easy, the difficult part is the end when you have to kill a level 73 elite Zuluhed the Whacked, which shouldn’t be a problem for most level 80 classes. Some of the squishier classes may want to bring either a tank or healer. You shouldn’t need more than 2 people for this. He appears on a ledge along with 8 archers. Easiest way to kill him is to clear the 2 rooms on either side before starting the quest, after you begin, run into one of the rooms to avoid the archers. Wait for about half a minute for him to summon his 68 elite demon, as soon as he summons the demon, run to the room on the other side, the demon wont agro and you can proceed to kill him without worrying about the demon smacking you around. Once he is dead, congratulations! Now you can start the actual reputation grind itself :D. At this point Mordenai doesn’t want anything to do with you until you have picked up 300 riding skill (you don’t need to buy an epic flying mount, just the skill…but if you have the skill I would recommend dropping the extra gold on a mount you can use it with, since the skill is the expensive part).

Neutral to Exalted
With the quest chain completed and 300 riding skill, Mordenai is now ready to send you on your super agent spy mission into the heart of the Dragonmaw Base Camp. Here, disguised as a Fel Orc, you will slowly rise through the ranks with various dailies, quests, and reputation items. Speak with him and he'll send you to Netherwing Ledge to the south to begin.

Netherwing Eggs [Available from neutral to exalted]


Reputation: 250 (350 on first turn in)
*Repeatable: Not a daily, you can turn in as many as you can find*
These are pure gold for the reputation grind. They can be found randomly on Netherwing Ledge as well as the chunks of rock floating around it. Each egg can be turned in for 250 reputation to (the first turn in gives you 350). They stack to 20 so grab them whenever you see them! They can also have a rare chance to be found in Sludge-covered Objects, Nethercite Deposits, and Netherdust Bushes. Unfortunately you must be a miner/herbalist respectively to take advantage of the Deposits and Bushes. They are BoP so farming the bushes and deposits on an alt or browsing for the eggs on the AH will do no good =/

Profession Dailies [Available from neutral to exalted]
Reputation: 250
*Only for miners/herbalists/skinners, sorry everyone else :(*
3 Dailies are available for certain professions that are skill 350 or higher. Miners can pick up 40 Nethercite Ore, herbalists can pick up 40 Netherdust Pollen, and skinners can pick up 35 Nethermine Flayer Hides. The dailies give an extra 250 rep per day, but even if you have multiple of the eligible professions (i.e. Mining/Herbalism) you can only do 1 profession daily per day (lame).

Netherwing Crystals – 250 rep
A Slow Death – 250 rep
The Not-So-Friendly Skies… - 250 rep

Arvoar the Rapacious drops an item that starts a one time quest which will give you an extra 250 rep.

Dailies Available at Friendly:

At friendly you will be given a trinket that summons a Netherwing ally to help you in Shadowmoon Valley. The trinket can be upgraded every time your rep level increases. The upgrade at honored lets you summon the netherwing ally anywhere (not just Shadowmoon valley), and the upgrade at revered adds 45 stamina to the trinket. All in all it’s not very useful, but there’s nothing like drawing attention to yourself outside the AH by summoning something people rarely if ever see. At the end of the article I included a screen shot of what the ally looks like when you summon it.

Picking up the Pieces… - 350 rep
Dragons are the Least of Our Problems – 350 rep
The Booterang: A Cure for the Common Worthless Peon – 350 rep

Now that you’re questing in the mines, and have friendly reputation, the Black Blood of Draenors and Draenor Blood Terrors have a chance to drop Sludge-covered Objects which can drop Murkblood Escape Plans. This item starts a quick 2 quest chain for a total of 850 extra rep. The Sludge-covered Objects can also drop Netherwing Eggs.

Dailies Available at Honored:

At honored you will be able to participate in the quest line “Earning Your Wings…” which lets you race 6 different NPCs (two of which should be known to players from AV)
Each NPC is more difficult than the last and the last few can be near impossible, but the reputation rewards are high, and you get a 10% mount speed trinket at the end (which unfortunately only works if you’re a level 70) as well as the [Skyshattered] Achievement.

These NPCs will try to dismount you, so keep enough distance to dodge their abilities, but don’t stray too far, they also have a tether and will despawn if you’re out of range. If repair bills are a concern (from dying to fall damage if they dismount you) then feel free to do these quests naked while no one is looking.
EDIT: Due to the pvp nerf to knock-back abilities, like shaman thunderstorm and druid typhoon, the racers will no longer dismount you. You still want to dodge the abilites, as they will slow you down and the racers still despawn if they get too far ahead.

1. Oldie McOld – 350 rep
Tip: Keep your distance (but not too far) and dodge the pumpkins (they’re not filled with
candy)
2. Trope the Filth-Belcher – 350 rep
Tip: Stay high or low, the bombs are much easier to dodge if you change direction often
3. Corlok the Vet – 500 rep
Tip: Dodge the skulls, stay higher than him, don’t dive into the formations with him, just follow from above
4. Wing Commander Ichman – 500 rep
Tip: First off, read the quest for these next two guys, their comments on AV are pretty funny. To dodge his ability, just change direction often and stay above him (see the pattern yet?)
5. Wing Commander Mulverick – 500 rep
Tip: His lightning bolts follow you, one way to cheat is to have friends flying around him getting targeted by them as well…or stay above him and change direction often.
6. Captain Skyshatter – 1000 rep
Tip: This guy is the hardest (especially without mount speed enhancement *shakes fist at paladins*) I did it at 70 with carrot on a stick, at level 80 carrot on a stick wont do much good, so make friends with a paladin, or go out and get [What a Long Strange Trip its Been] for your 310% drake. Skyshatter is fast, and it’s hard enough to not let him get too far ahead and despawn, not to mention he bombards you with meteors. Stay just above him and when he turns cut corners to keep up so he doesn’t gain any distance on you, also watch out for a few U-turns that he makes. The meteors aren’t terribly difficult to dodge, the trick is dodging and not losing ground. It is possible with a 280% mount and no speed enhancement…but anyone with high latency, low frames, or trouble with quick direction changes will be slamming their face on the keyboard before it is over.
EDIT: He will hit himself with his own meteors (Thanks Kitai). So stay just below him, watch out for his u-turns and let him slow himself down with his own ability.

Once you defeat Skyshatter, you will earn the achievement [Skyshattered] as well as an obsolete trinket, 14g 34s, and a cool 1000 rep.

*Note this daily takes place at the Scryer/Aldor base in Shadowmoon depending on which you choose, it is also a group daily and is solo able, but can be difficult for melee to complete (especially if you’re not a healing class) since the elites fly around*



That’s it! You’re Exalted! Now turn in that last quest, watch a quick RP where Illidan shows up and calls you out, and take your free ride back to Shattrath to get your free Netherwing Drake (that’s right, the first one is free! Bonus amirite?)
